TREASURERS REPORT
Treasurer Report was made by Angie Lappage
- Balance in the Bank of $251.94 including 2011 memberships bought to date. The balance does not include
any of the money from the banquet tickets. It is expected that between supper tickets and silent auction
monies the banquet will break even.
Della Cryderman made a motion to accept
the treasurer’s report, seconded by Kathy Johnston. Motion carried.
2011
EXECUTIVE
2011
Executives positions were open to nominations. Lisa Koshel, Robyn Paquette and Angie Lappage let their
names stand for their current positions. They will remain in their current positions.
Della
Cryderman made note that each club used to give $3 per horse to the NSQHA not $2 like it was this year. Mike
Koshel made a motion that each club give $3 per horse to the NSQHA, seconded by Kathy Johnston. Motion
carried.
2011 show dates will be available on the NSQHA website - www.NSQHA.com
NSQHA WEBSITE
Annual fee of $137.95 USD is due for the website. Angela gave a brief explanation of the website
and it links to other quarter horse websites. See stated that in 2010 we had 2214 hits, most from Canada
and the United States. She explained the key words that had lead people to our websites. Angela
does all our updating for free. Emo has voted to keep their portion of the website.
NLQHA
directs people to the site for information. Lisa Koshel likes that annual minutes and other valuable information
is on the site.
Jessie
Godin is hoping that Face book will become a more valuable tool. Angela will link the website to our current
NSQHA group on face book. Face
book allows for quick responses to questions and we can advertise upcoming events easily on the group page.
It was discussed that paying for the website for 3 years would save us approximately 33% over paying for one year
at a time. Jessie Godin wanted to make sure that before paying the website would still be viable in 3 years.
Motion made by Jessie Godin to pay for the website for 3 years, seconded by Kathy Johnston. Motion
carried.
MEMBERSHIPS
2010 membership purchase were low, lots of people missed out on awards because
they didn’t buy memberships.
A discussion was brought to the table by
Lisa Koshel whether memberships should be mandatory or remain voluntary. Most were not in favour of mandatory
memberships. Della said AQHA rules state you cannot make memberships mandatory for people to compete at
local shows.
We discussed the options to make people aware that a membership is needed to qualify
for year-end awards. Jan will make an extra effort to remind people in the office and there will be a line
added to the entry form for memberships. We will also publish a list of members and post in the office
so people can see if they have a membership or not. Announcements will continue to be made at the shows
but we encourage all people to buy their memberships well in advance of the first show. Coaches continue
to encourage students to buy memberships. It is still the responsibility of individual to ensure they have their membership.
Karen Westerback stated she buys a Minnesota membership to get the newsletter and stay in touch about upcoming events
and clinics.
Robyn Paquette will do a quarterly membership email that will include any information
that either club wants to send out. The members can then forward the information out to their contacts
and hopefully our club will grow.
Jan Halvorsen has list of emails that she
will forward onto Robyn to help get the information out to everyone.
Sandra Drennan made a
motion to increase annual membership fees to $20 for a single membership and $38 for a family membership, seconded by Maureen
Hanson. Motion carried.
CLUB UPDATES
All changes and updates can be found at
www.NSQHA.com
Crossover fee structure was asked about by Karen Westerback. Jan
and Angela outlined how crossover fees worked and what the cost were. It was asked if the crossover fee
structure could be changed. Each club will discuss and pass a motion in regards to crossover fees.
Grassroots classes - as soon as an exhibitor has received an AQHA point on any horse in any class they are no longer
eligible for grassroots classes but may finish out the current show year in grassroots.
Jessie
Godin made a motion that 2011 year end awards remain the same, seconded by Della Cryderman. Motion carried.
NOVICE SHOW
A
subcommittee should be developed to run a novice show in the spring of 2012. Everyone thought it would
be too difficult to plan a show for this year.
Colleen
Wieringa, Maureen Hanson, Karen Westerback, Kathy Johnston and Kim Wright volunteered to be part of the committee.
The format for the show would be 2 days and include a clinic in the morning and a show in the afternoon.
We would need to hire judges that would be good at both. Spectator fees could be charged for the
morning to create revenue. Usually there is a fee of $5 per class.
Lisa
had mentioned each club donating money to get the show up and running.
OTHER
BUSINESS
Jan
Halvorsen gave a list of judges for the 2011 show which will be posted on the website; she also reminded us that select buckles
are no longer free for the shows.
Lisa adjourned the meeting at 5:23pm

Lisa Koshel, Mike Koshel, Carla Trudel, Angie Lappage, Robyn Paquette, Carol Diehl, Brad Diehl, Val Artimowich, Pat Watt,
Colleen Wieringa, Kali Wieringa, Maureen Hanson, Kathy Johnston, Shannon Doudiet, Kathy McKenzie, Rita Clasen, Sarah Clasen-Byce,

Della
called the meeting to order at 12:20 pm Saturday January 16th 2010.
There were no minutes to the last NSQHA meeting.
Della ran through a history of the club and the purpose. The main goals are to get more people out to the shows and
to provide an umbrella organization for the Dryden, Emo, Thunder Bay (and used to be northern Minnesota) associations to provide
year end awards and recognition.
Rita Classen gave a report on the existing
NSQHA bank account. The account has not had activity for a couple years, but has a balance of $343.00.
The
executive positions were filled without a need for voting. The 2010 executive is as follows.
President:
Lisa Koshel 937-2917
Secretary: Robyn Paquette 223-8334
Treasurer: Angie Lappage 937-5462
The
secretary will look after the selling of NSQHA memberships as well as make up an email list for any updates or information
that we need circulated.
Matthew Oliphant moved that we transfer the funds
from the existing NSQHA account to a new account set up in Dryden for the purpose of the NSQHA. Motion was seconded by Mike
Koshel. Carried.
Reminders as in the past, each club will pay the expenses from the banquet when
they host it and NSQHA will purchase the awards. $2 will be collected from each horse that competes each day at the qualifying
shows and will be remitted to NSQHA at the end of the show. NSQHA membership monies will be required to qualify for year end
awards. Points will be calculated form the day the membership is paid until the end of the year.
A
discussion was had in regards to minimum shows a person must compete in to have their points count towards year end awards,
it was decided there would be no minimum shows requirement, therefore;
Shannon Doudiet moved that high point awards are
based on the most points earned during the show season. Kathy Johnston seconded the motion. Carried.
It
was moved by Colleen Wieringa that all NSQHA membership money be paid into the NSQHA account directly as a separate membership
for year end awards. The cost of these memberships for 2010 will be single $15 and family $30. Matthew Oliphant seconded the
motion. Carried.
A discussion was held in regards to the classes in our
shows for 2010. It was decided we will add Grassroots classes, walk trot classes, hunter hack and driving classes to our programs
for 2010. We will also be running the English classes first thing in the morning.
A
discussion was held in regards to our website and the option of using an “ning” group. It was decided that we
would continue to use the NSQHA website for all updates and our hope is for 2010 that we can all get our information in to
the website administrator to update the site regularly to keep everyone informed of changes and information. Some options
were discussed around free websites, the general consensus was a website that is for information purposes and not allowing
comments would serve our purpose for the time being.
We discussed ways to
keep our shows growing and it was agreed upon by all that the stake classes are a good drawing card for competitors. We all
agreed that the website will be a good tool for both information as well as advertising for our sponsors. It was also agreed
that our list of year end awards that we are going to be presenting be listed on the website so people are aware of what they
can be competing for.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:55pm.
