Year End Point Calculation

The points for the annual awards for all-around open, amateur and youth are calculated in accordance with rule #SHW 803 in the AQHA rule book.

Following is a condensed version of the rules as they would apply. Refer to the AQHA rule book for the full and complete text:

A year-end All-Around Award and Reserve All-Around Award will be given to the horse in the open division, and the amateur and youth with any one horse in their respective divisions earning the most points in halter and performance classes at AQHA approved shows.

Points must be earned in halter and at least two of the performance categories listed below, with a minimum of five points earned in the lowest category.

Category I ~ Halter/Performance Halter
Category II ~ Reining , Western Riding, Ranch Riding, Trail
Category III ~ Barrel Racing, Pole Bending
Category IV ~ Hunter Hack
Category V ~ Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle
Category VI ~ Not applicable
Category VII ~ Showmanship at Halter, Western Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation

NOTE: Novice winners are determined by the highest number of points accumulated by a horse and rider combination in the novice classes.

New in 2018 ~ In order to win an award, the exhibitor must be a member.  For example, if I hire a trainer to show my horse in open classes, the trainer must be a member for the points to count.

Border Crossing Explained

You will need the following:
1. International Coggins Test - Good for 6 months.
2. Health Certificate - Good for 30 days.
3. There is no vet check necessary at the border.

In order to bring your horse into Canada, you must have a current health certificate and negative Coggins report.  When entering Canada, a Customs Inspector will check the health certificate and negative Coggins, inspect the horse, and if he is satisfied that all is in order, will stamp the certificate and send you on your way. The health certificate is good for a 30 day stay in Canada.  On returning to the US, you may be requested to produce your papers again and a similar scrutiny will occur in order to return to the US.

These particulars could be subject to change at any time. In order to ensure ease of movement over the international border, call ahead to see if there have been any changes.
